Urgent requirement for an experienced programme-level Test Manager, with a broad appreciation and a demonstrable background in multiple testing techniques and practical experience of establishing testing function previously. The client are a highly regarded Managing Agent, whom operate within the Lloyd's and Companies insurance markets.

The client are gonig through a significant IT transformation and investment in core technologies and applications, this role forms a key part of this transoformation and the successful applicant will sit in federated Build function, worknig closely with development teams, Portfolio and Project managers and Service Management, as well as on-shore and off-shore third parties.

The client have engaged a consultancy to produce a target test strategy and operating model. The Testing Programme Manager will be responsible for implementing the new strategy with an outsourced test function, realising the maturity and efficiency gains that this will bring.
The role will suit a seasoned testing professional to set up and run the testing function before transitioning it to a permanent organisational home. Somebody who is a strong strategic thinker and planner who can provide expertise throughout the product development life cycle and be an advocate of quality assurance

Main Duties & Responsibilities:
The key requirements of the role will be:

Implementation of the test strategy:

  • Review and refine the testing transformation recommendations and roadmap produced by third party consultancy.
  • Plan and facilitate the implementation of the recommended strategy.
  • Ensure adherence to the standards and methodology for the testing function, including developing a framework for assessing benefits and risks.
  • Recommend improvements to the role of testing within the organisation.

Management of the testing function:

  • Responsible for the testing function which covers testing for applications, infrastructure and business process changes.
  • Management of scheduling of resources according to project and operational needs.
  • Responsible for test automation, performance testing, data testing and other advanced testing capabilities like SOA & mobility testing.
  • Manage the testing support functions including testing tools administration, test data and test environments.
  • Establish ongoing organisational home for the testing function and manage the transition

Liaising with stakeholders for testing requirements:

  • Operates as a testing subject matter expert and gives advice to internal stakeholders and management to determine the most appropriate testing strategies for complex projects within the constraints and operational requirements of the organisation.
  • Provide project teams and business with effective support and advice/expertise in relation to testing.
  • Assist in the development of organisational change (people, processes and systems) from Target Operational Models.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of management and in public forums.

Education, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • A strong leader with experience of managing and providing direction to a Test function.
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience performing a similar role
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels including strong business writing skills and ability to build business relationships
  • Supplier management experience (both on shore and off shore desirable but not essential)
  • Has comprehensive knowledge of testing activities and techniques and is able to manage the testing within complex IT Programmes
  • Has managed testing on Agile as well as Waterfall projects
  • Effective planning and organisation skills
  • Knowledge of risk management and risk based testing
  • Ability to handle conflict effectively and diplomatically
  • ITSQB-BCS Advanced Test Manager certification (desirable)
  • Experience of implementing and using popular testing tools such as QualityCenter, TFS, Selenium etc.
