Senior Integration (API) Developer - Insurance - C# / Python - Integration/API Developer - Microservices - Lloyd's Insurance

London - City

£70,000 - 75,000 with excellent bonus and benefits

Urgent requirement for an experienced Integration Architect, with skills in Data and Web integration for a global commercial insurance Underwriter. The firm are going through significant IT change, following significant investment and require a hands-on leader who will be concentrating on delivering the next generation of technology for this highly regarded firm.

This role will lead a team to analyse, design and implement appropriate modern integration services such as micro-services & APIs which can be re-used across the business

The ability to drive collaboration across teams and establish standards, frameworks and tooling whilst ensuring deployed solutions are robust, scalable, performant, cost-effective and supportable is essential

Duties and accountabilities

  • Contributes to the wider IT Strategy & Architecture group by developing, promoting and communicating our Enterprise Architecture principles, standards, objectives and roadmaps.
  • Analyses business needs and creates appropriate Integration solution architectures (logical and physical) ensuring all architectural, functional and non-functional requirements are properly satisfied.
  • Manages team work load effectively, ensuring delivery adherence to timescale and quality needs.
  • Maintains a high standard of code and design documentation, ensuring all delivered services, systems and data comply with regulatory and IT standards and procedures.
  • Engages with the wider IT&S teams to ensure all Integration architecture proposals adhere to Enterprise Architectural principles, security and operational requirements.
  • Coaches and mentors project delivery teams and other colleagues as required to ensure successful business outcomes - acts as the Integration Domain expert escalation point when necessary
  • Seek opportunities for automation and leverages Agile and DevOps to optimize delivery practices
  • Advocates and evangelises the use of integration services, micro-services architecture and API vision, while creating & monitoring standards, supporting technical questions and coaching teams
  • Work across teams to develop, manage and monitor the adoption of API governance framework, standards and gateway - mentors the wider team to ensure adoption.
  • Implements batch and real time data solutions leveraging the open-source, big data ecosystem
  • Identifies opportunities that can improve efficiency of business processes and/or support business growth, working with relevant stakeholders to establish the benefits of using API services
  • Investigates and resolves Integration service functionality issues when necessary



Skills, knowledge and experience
The successful candidate will have:

  • A proven track record as a senior "hands-on" Integration Architect in large Enterprises
  • Technical team leadership both directly and within a matrix framework
  • Enhanced programming skills in some / all of the following languages: Python, C# (.net), JavaScript
  • Knowledge of development using technologies such as Node.js, SOAP/XML, REST/JSON API's, Flask
  • Experience of micro-services & API integration frameworks such as Apigee or other API platforms
  • Experience of relational databases, data integration (SOA/API), message bus (ESB) and ETL tools
  • Experience of batch, message & event based real-time and near-real time integration approaches
  • Exposure to Big Data solutions (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, NiFi, NoSQL, Hive) is advantageous
  • Experience developing Integration services in the Public Cloud (AWS/Azure) is highly advantageous
  • Experience of Agile project delivery and DevOps methodology and effective use in large Enterprises.
  • Experience creating new digital products and services that transform the customer experience
  • Experience of using innovation & prototyping methodologies to deliver new products to market
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with a focus on understanding the actual needs
  • Experience developing, implementing & governing IT Integration services, patterns & standards
  • Credibility articulating technology concepts and solutions to non-technical audiences
  • TOGAF or other recognised architecture framework would be advantageous
