Data Services Lead

This is an IT transformation journey to simplify, standardise and centralize the technology landscape. The objective is to create the foundation from which it can drive the digitization agenda of the newly formed cluster of Transport & Logistics brands. The first step in the IT Strategy is to put in place a core IT team that can deliver standard IT services.

A vacancy exists for a Data Services Lead

Responsible for planning and directing staff and suppliers in the support, development and efficient operation of data and database administration activities.

Ensures that database administration activities are proactively planned and managed to ensure ongoing service performance, availability and continuity.

Responsible for developing, specifying and maintaining data and database management software tools used to protect application service availability and support effective and efficient operations. Likely to include database administration, extract/transform/load, data mining/warehousing and software development. This role requires international travel.

  • Coordinates and manages resources to diagnose and resolve complex system, application software, security, and other related problems that impact system availability.
  • Develops and monitors the goals and objectives for staff and contractors which are consistent with the overall strategy of the organization.
  • Identifies solutions to minimize service operating costs by eliminating data redundancy, introducing proactive service monitoring, administrative process refinements, utilization of resources
  • Utilize and promote good project management principles within the Data Services Team to ensure the monitoring and development of systems is within scope, budget, objectives, schedules, and resource commitments.
  • Manage and negotiate vendor software contracts and license agreements.
  • Review departmental requests for technology and make recommendations, as appropriate, on alternative system options.

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related experience/certifications.
  • Experience in a global Application Portfolio Management role
  • Experience leading a team to deliver increasing business value
  • Experience in database management and administration
  • Advanced knowledge of Oracle database development including data service continuity and integrity, performance tuning, SQL reporting, PL/SQL - essential
  • Advanced knowledge of Application Lifecycle Management
  • Extensive knowledge of container terminal applications software including Terminal Operating Systems
  • Advanced knowledge of container terminal business operations - advantageous
  • Advanced knowledge of service strategy - advantageous
  • Advanced knowledge of service transition - essential
  • Advanced knowledge of service operations - essential
  • Advanced knowledge of Information Services functions - essential
  • Medium knowledge of shared service operations - advantageous
  • ITIL foundation certified - advantageous
  • Strong communication and advisory skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills/personal impact
  • Solves challenges based on accurate identification of underlying factors/causes and is aware of the impact of proposed solutions outside their own immediate area
  • Works well under pressure and can navigate uncertainty
