Profile: Senior Cloud Engineer (GCP)
My client, a retail company based in London are looking for experienced, motivated and developing engineers who have big ambitions to succeed in the IT Industry and are keen to build and enhance their careers around one of the most exciting and innovative technology companies of our time. They are based near Google in London and you will regularly work closely with their team to help our joint customers on their digital journey to the cloud.
Senior Cloud Engineer (GCP)
As a Senior Cloud Engineer, you will work within a team of Engineers and Operations
personnel building highly resilient, scalable and performant GCP infrastructure in an
automated and efficient manner for our clients. The engineers will be required to use their
initiative to innovate to achieve maximum performance. Be prepared to investigate and use
new products/services offered by the Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Responsibilities and areas, you will develop;
- Building and managing our customers GCP environments and projects to enable
application deployments
- Engineer solutions on GCP foundation platform using Infrastructure-As-A-Code
methods (e.g. Terraform, Deployment Manager)
- Integrate, configure, deploy and manage centrally provided common cloud services
(e.g. IAM, networking, logging, Operating systems, Containers.)
- Manage software-defined network in GCP
- Ensure compliance with Security and Operational risk standards (E.g. Network,
Firewall, OS, Logging, Monitoring, Availability, Resiliency)
- Build and support continuous integration (CI), continuous delivery (CD) and
continuous testing activities
- Engineering activities to implement patches and updates
- Support non-functional testing
- Update support and operational documentation as required
- Troubleshooting and support application support and development teams
- Ensure good change management practice is implemented as specified by central
standards.
Experience
The ideal candidate for this role will have the following experience and qualifications:
- Experience of building a range of Services in a cloud service provider, ideally GCP
- Expert understanding of DevOps principles and Infrastructure-as-a-Code concepts
and techniques
- Strong understanding of CI/CD and available tools
- Security and Compliance, e.g. IAM and cloud compliance/auditing/monitoring tools
- Operational effectiveness - delivers solutions that align to approved design patterns
and security standards
- Ideally programming experience in one or more of the following languages: Python,
Ruby, Java, JavaScript, Go, Groovy or Scala
- Server administration (either Linux and Windows)
- Automation scripting (using scripting languages such as Terraform, Ansible etc.)
- Customer/stakeholder focus. Ability to build strong relationships with Application
teams, cross-functional IT and global/local IT teams
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills; an ability to communicate with
impact, ensuring complex information is articulated in a meaningful way to wide and
varied audiences
Qualifications
- (Mandatory) 2:1 Degree educated in Computer, Science or Technology related
degree
- (Highly preferable) Linux Certification
- (Ideally) GCP Certifications, ideally one or more of the following: Professional
Architect, Cloud Network, Cloud Security and Data Engineer. Other leading cloud
providers will also be acceptable
Base location will be Victoria, London but likely to be asked to work on client sites across the. Initial engagement will be with a client based in Paddington, London.
