Chief Operating Officer

Duties and responsibilities

– Development and implementation of strategic plans to achieve the company’s goals in the areas of transportation and logistics.

– Working with the management to define and implement long-term business strategies.

– Identification and development of new market opportunities and optimisation of existing business processes.

– Optimisation of processes, production costs and process costs

– Responsible for digitalisation.

Operational management

– Ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of all transportation and logistics processes.

– Implementing best practices and continuous improvement to increase operational excellence.

– Negotiating with suppliers, carriers and other subcontractors for best possible purchasing.

– Influencing the pricing strategy in collaboration with sales

Financial management

– Responsibility for the operational budget and financial targets of the logistics departments.

– Monitoring costs and implementing measures to reduce costs.

– Analysing financial performance and reporting regularly to management.

Employee management

– Leading and developing an international team of professionals and managers.

– Promoting a positive and productive working environment.

– Identifying training and development needs and promoting talent management initiatives.

Customer care

– Maintaining and developing relationships with key customers and business partners.

– Ensuring a high level of customer service and resolving issues quickly.

– Developing and implementing customized logistics solutions to meet customer requirements.

Compliance and safety

– Ensuring compliance with all relevant laws, regulations and internal policies.

– Monitoring and implementing safety standards in all logistics processes.

– Perform risk management and implement measures to minimise business risks.

Qualifications and requirements

– Education: Degree in logistics, business administration or a related field.

– Experience: At least 10 years of professional experience in the logistics industry, of which at least 5 years in a management position, preferably as COO or in a similar role.

– Specialised knowledge: In-depth knowledge of international air, ocean and truck transportation, B2C logistics and contract logistics.

– Language skills: Business fluent in German and English; other languages are an advantage.

– Skills: Excellent leadership, communication and negotiation skills.

– IT skills: Experience with logistics-related IT systems and software solutions.
