IIyas joined Venquis in March 2019 as an IT technician, supporting the Head of Business Systems within our busy Operations team. He is responsible for supporting our technological growth and development plans by focusing on successfully delivering the day-to-day IT requirements. He hopes to gain valuable work experience from working with us and we will in return support him to achieve his IT qualification to become a qualified Network Engineer.

Ilyas was recruited from the Infrastructure Technician program at LDN Apprenticeships. They help talented young people to get their first job and start a career they love. Venquis decided to partner with LDN Apprenticeships because they believe in recruiting young people based on factors beyond a CV. They focus on identifying and developing young people who have energy, enthusiasm, willingness to learn, ability to take feedback and propensity to take action.

What was it that attracted you to Venquis?

I liked that Venquis was one of Europe’s fastest growing companies and I wanted to work for a company that could give invaluable experience.

What skills have you gained?

I have developed my interpersonal, problem solving and technical skills in my apprenticeship. I now have the confidence to communicate with staff across the business with ease and can think quickly to resolve most IT related issues. Being a part of the IT team has given me an insight into business IT infrastructure and the importance of maintaining business systems.

What is your day to day job like?

No day is the same at Venquis, the environment here is exciting and quite busy at times. My primary duties include maintenance of computer networks, hardware, software and dealing with IT requests around troubleshooting, diagnosing and resolving hardware issues.

It is a great environment to work in and once I learnt the basics I was able to handle more responsibility with ease.

What advice would you give someone considering joining Venquis through LDN Apprenticeships?

I would say DO IT! I cannot recommend this apprenticeship enough, it has given me the opportunity to take the next step in my career to becoming a fully qualified Network Engineer. I’ve received a lot of guidance and training in my apprenticeship and I cannot thank Venquis enough for giving me this opportunity.
